Today I'm going to be doing a mini-preview to Transformations in Pain, coming April 1st, 2008 from Engen Books. These are images that now have little or nothing to do with the text itself, but at one point served as inspiration for or were inspired by the concepts wished to convey in the novel. Like most artwork directly tied to novels, these were done several years ago and not much can be read into them, but I will try to explain each as best I can.

This is the unused chapter-image for the third chapter of Transformations in Pain: "Super Hero"
This is the unused chapter-image for the fifth chapter of Transformations in Pain: "Transformations in Pain"
This is the unused cover for "Transformations in Pain"
This is the unused chapter-image for the eigth chapter of Transformations in Pain: "Power"

Real quick, just posting this one thing. It has more to do with the writing section of the website than anything, but I felt the need to upload them at the same time. Enjoy!

Image to accompany the short story, "Amanda".

Sometimes I'll be asked by someone to do a sketch or drawing of something. Usually it's something fictional like an anime character or a Ninja Turtle or something, but every so often I get called out to draw real life things. It's fun and new when most things I draw come from my head, so I enjoy it while I can. This group was requested of me earlier in the week. A female coworker asked me to sketch a picture of her daughter when she was an infant for her 21st birthday. Neither of these is the finished sketch, they're just drawings I did to try and get what the child looked like hammered down. If I can, I'll put up a photo of the finished sketch when I'm done. :)

The first sketch, as an infant "Baby One"
The second sketch, as an infant "Baby Two"
The third sketch, as an infant "Baby Three"
Judging her to be about 6 here "Baby Four"
Around 6 again "Baby Five"
"Baby Six"
"Baby Seven"
Final stages. "Baby Eight"
Final stages "Baby Nine"
Final stages "Baby Ten"
The horrible error "Baby Eleven"
Trying to correct "Baby Twelve"
Just for fun "Baby Thirteen"

Sadly, art is no longer one of my main venues for relaxation. In the last few years it's very rare to see me draw at home or even anywhere near my home. Nowadays, my artistic endeavors are fufilled at work (where I can't really do any writing). Most of the time inspiration comes from within, but every so often something external triggers the little artist in me. So, here's a tribute to PEOPLE AT WORK!!!!

A girl I work with reading Black Womb: "A.D."
Adam Bruce. Longtime friend and Black Womb co-conspirator. "Bruce".
A Drake, but not a water fowl. "Mallard".
Random person at work. "The Y Connection".
This one looks like a crime-scene sketch. "Mug Shot".

Wow, so much for updating this every week. Sorry guys, sometimes life gets in the way :). For anyone who every asks why I didn't publish Black Womb as a weekly webcomic, this indeed is the reason why. Procrastination is my greatest enemy. With that in mind, here are a few new sketches to check out. This week: celebrities!

He's been a Bond, a Gentleman and a convict, he's Sean Connery.
Bad-ass reality TV star Dog the Bounty Hunter.
A senator I know nothing about other then I copied his photo from online, James McGreevy.
Ozzy!
And, this is a self-portrait of me. I'm not a celebrity? Fine. Be that way. Here's Matthew LeDrew.
